Hello all,
Sorry for the double posting, but the problem I just posted on Technical Support titled...."cannot boot Win2000 Pro setup from CDROM... " is driving me crazy.... (And that is getting to be a short drive...)..... and it looks like a BIOS/OS related problem....

I would like the folks who frequent this forum here to look at that post/thread over at the Technical Support Forum, and offer ideas.

It looks like there should be some way to get out of the "No Emulation" setting for the CDROM in the BIOS, but I have looked over all the BIOS settings and see no reference to this setting at all. So as the system is now, it refuses to read the Win2000 CD, as described in that thread. The motherboard type and all the other background info is cited in that post.

Other internet digging the past 8 hours has been of little/no help. Appreciate some insights in this issue. Right now it will not load the 2000 Pro OS onto a clean HDD...Thanks, Ron......

Why don't you either:

1. Make the floppy set with the MAKEBOOT.EXE file on the CD.

or

2. Run Setup from a Win98 floppy. You need to add SMARTDRV.EXE to the floppy and run it before you run Setup - it will make things happen a lot faster.

The setup command is WINNT.EXE.

Hi Bill and all, thanks for the suggesitons. My fuller post today on the resolution of this case is over on the Technical Support forum....

I tried makeboot disks, etc, as per your and other suggestions, but this PC would not ever get past a point where the No Emulation just stopped the process of installing win2000 from CD. As per one suggestion, I did finally swap in another CD reader, which was a more recent vintage model, and I was then able to install Win2000 from CD on this computer, even with the BIOS readout at startup, showing "no emulation" . Something else to watch out for. See some additional info on the other post.

Thanks again as always for the replies.. ron:)
