My cd drive will not read. There are no device conflicts and according to system devices, "this device is working properly!" Ya, right. Model: Liteon CD-Rom LTN 323. Any ideas? Thanks.

Make sure the cable is not loose.

Swap cables with the HD

Go into BIOS and see if there is a feature something like "Press F3 to detect all HD's"

Did it ever work properly?

Even if Device Manager reports a device as working properly, dosn't mean it actually is. Device Manager is only telling you there are no conflicts with the device. It has no diagnostics to check the device to see if it will perform as intended.

The lens may be dirty, or weak...or even the laser has gone dead. I have acouple around here that were working good, then got to where they would only read commercial pressed CDs (yes, there is a difference) then, quit reading anything.

I have bought a lens cleaner, and sometimes, it will help out for awhile. If you should decide to try one, be sure to get one with a soft brush attached to the disk...there are some that have a fairly hard plastic brush, and these will knock the laser assy out of alignment. 1mm out of alignment, and it won't see anything.
