A problem with Cisco Systems' Catalyst 5000 switch occurs when a PC sending IPX 802.1 packets from Windows XP exists. The conflicts can cause your corporate networks to crash. The unexpected incompatibility sits between the 802.1x wireless security feature in Windows XP and the Cisco switch software that has a bug. Cisco has a fix on its website.
I think 802.1 should have been dropped from Windows long ago...at least in favor of 802.3, but, I wonder how long it will be before some punks learn how to sneak some of the XP type 802.1 packets into corporations as an attempt to crash the company during business?

It looks like the problem can occur if the switches are configured to accept 802.1 packets. I bet some LAN people are gonna be busy with this.

It definitely IS a cisco problem...NO switch should be able to be locked up by ANY packet going thrugh it...that would be ludicrous ( and it is )
