Colleagues:

I installed a Plextor 16/10/40A jumpered as Master by itself on the secondary channel of a Iwill KK266 motherboard, 1.2 GHz Thunderbird CPU, 512MB PC133 SDRAM CS2. On the primary channel is a 30 GB ATA100 IBM HD (Master) and Creative 52X CDROM (Slave). I am using a SB Live Value sound card, 32 DDR GB0010 AGP card, 2 Winmodems. I have checked for conflicts and there are none.

If the tray of the Plextor holds a CD and is closed, the LED remains on.

In addition, the Plextor Manager 2000 will not launch, though the Adaptec software does, and appears to work.

DMA is enabled.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I sent essentially the content of my post above to Plextor Tech Support Thursday evening. Waiting in my e-mail box Friday morning was the following:

The light will always be on in the PlexWriter when there's a disc in it. See page 4 of the manual.

To fix the Plextor Manager 2000 problem you probably need to update you ASPI layer. Please download and run ASPI32.EXE from http://205.158.5.28/aspi32.exe

If it fails to install, please download and run ASPIINST.EXE from http://205.158.5.28/aspiinst.exe , then ASPI32.EXE again.

I have not tried the suggested solutions, but I think the prompt response speaks well for Plextor.

Brangwen ~ Thanks for the follow through in telling an important story. I have the 16/10/40 with no problems, but now that I think about it, I don't think I've tried to run the PM 2000. I'll give it a shot this evening and dash right out to your links if it fails. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
