I've lost the keyboard and mouse on "i430vx" intel motherboard
getting a rapid beeping BIOS code, when I unplug the keyboard it goes away but then have no keyboard or mouse (mouse is serial, was trying to install ps2 port when I accidentally grounded out one of the pins, this is when the problem ocurred)
am leaving town this afternoon if you need anymore info, I'll post before I leave
thank you very much
I think I fried the keyboard controller and I'm wondering if a controller off another pentium board would work on this board,
and if so what does it look like and where do I find it?
the thing still boots up but of course no kb or mouse, so it's useless as it is, any suggestions are appreciated
thank you again

reading some troubleshooting it said there was a controller chip on the board, thats what I'm talking about changing (if you didn't understand what I was trying to say)

The keyboard controller chip is behind the ISA and PCI slots. I wouldn't encourage changing it out unless you have proper equipment to remove and resolder the replacement chip! It takes someone who've got plenty of experience doing PC board rework to undertake what you've suggested doing. But if you insist on reworking it yourself, just remember to take all of the necessary precautions!

Also, have you taken the mobo out to take a close look at where the damage lies? It could just be a burned out trace near the keyboard connector or the keyboard connector itself is damaged. In any case, I wish you luck. Let us know how it went.:)

your probably right, think I'll try to find another mobo for this old puter.
