Does anyone have any tips on installing a Sound card?

I just purchased a OEM 5.1 sound blaster sound card for my 2 systems. Are there any tips or alerts I should know about. Like using the bios or if on board sound cannot be upgraded. I've never done this and it sounds to easy an upgrade to just assume it is. My 2 systems are.. Emax ECS K7VZM mobo, 1.3 duron, 30gig hd, Win Xp pro. The other is Fic AN11 stealth mobo, 60 gig hd, 1700XP cpu, Win XP pro. Thanks people. Have a great holiday! :t :D

make sure you seat the card properly because if you don't, the system may not boot.

if the Mobos came with on-board audio, be sure to disable them in your BIOS. I can't give specific directions because all BIOS's are different but it should definitely be there

Thanks Stix.........Should the audio onboard be disabled before or after I put in the sound card, does it make a difference? Laterz. :t

Disable first remove it from device manager in safe mode, uninstall any progs you put in with it from the manuf as you won't need them anymore, shutdown and put in new card prefereably pci slot 3 or 4 and install drivers. Let us know afterwards if there are any problems.
