NForce2 Detection Ability...

Anybody know - does the NForce2 Chipset BIOS have the ability to detect the FSB settings of the chip and/or memory modules that are installed? For example, if I put a 266 FSB 2100+, does it know to leave the FSB at 266, rather than pushing it to the max of 333? Same with memory - if I install PC2700 DDR, will it detect it and leave the memory bus at 333 instead of the max of 400? Or do I need to be careful to get the BIOS up and set the bus speeds manually before running?

Most AMD boards default to 100MHz FSB for Duron compatibility. Every AMD board I've had has required manually setting FSB.

On the Asus A7N8X there is a default jumper set at 200FSB, change it to enable 266/333FSB, and go with bios settings from there. ;)

On my nforce 2 board there is a jumper as was stated above.

Then in the bios when I first booted my XP2600+ was first seen as a 133 bus speed. In the bios I choose "optimal defaults" and this will analyze your CPU and Memory and choose what it thinks is correct. Upon reboot after this change it got the bus speed correct at 166. It also saw my memory (3200xms) as the correct 400 but im ramping it down manually to put in sync wtih the CPU bus.

Hope this helps. I believe the bios is similar on most nforce 2's as I believe they all use the Award Bios.

Yep its also the odd ball. By that I mean the only one to have BOTH nics onboard enabled. Its the only one to use the built in 3com ethernet.:D Asus also confirms it to have the fixed pci and agp multi's for mad oclocks. They garuntee it will lock them both when raising fsb-hooohaaaa.:D
