Hi everyone
If I clear the bios with the jumper, the computer boots and I get the "CMOS cheaksum error - defaults loaded" message. After I restart many post beeps and funny sounds, but no start-up. As soon as I clear the CMOS it will boot again. Do new M/B come with dead CMOS batteries or do I have another problem?
M/B is Biostar M7VKQ with 1300 Duron.
Thanks for the help!!

It definately wouldnt be the 1st time a "new" board came with a spent battery.

I set up a new Iwill board recently, and the first boot gave me the checksum error. Once I went into the BIOS and did some setup changes, I rebooted and did not get the checksum error again. It still could be a weak battery I suppose, but so far its holding.

I am with Bovon on this one. Just go and set it to low end default and see what happens. Same thing happend to me, just had to change something in the Bios anything really.

All a CMOS Checksum error means is that the Settingsai n the BIOS were changed somehow (IE Clearing the bios)
and its the computers way of letting you know "Hey you better check out my settings to make sure ..."
if it never happends again, you're ok. If it DOES happen again without you touching the BIOS SEttings, or clearing the bios (IE ALL on its own) then yes you may have a weak battery.

I would check the following:
1)Ensure you SAVED the settings in BIOS. (As Mr. Bovon suggested...I read somewhere that he has good "horse sense"(:D Is that a good thing?;) )lol
2)Check battery/battery contacts.
3)Try known good memory on mb. (PeterMissel explained this as a poss. cause of a CMOS checksum error in a thread some time ago..thanks Peter)
