I use an Intel Pentim MMX 200 MHz processor. It worked perfectly until I changed my motherboard. Now its starting up as a 166 Mhz MMX processor. What can I do ? Can I safely oveclock it by increasing the voltage or what ? .Please help. If u need any more details my e-mail is listed .

Make sure you have the multiplier and front side bus set right on the new motherboard. This is covered in the manual, or you can find it online. On older motherboards like that, they're usually changed with jumpers on the motherboard.

**** that's old skool.
your need to manually set your jumpers. there were only a few motherboard with jumperless setup, like some of the abits.
you need 3x66mhz for 200mhz.
voltage is last. try a higher bus speed first. if anything, the board may have 75 or even 83mhz.

why not go out and buy another board? socket 7 motherboards are < $10 now adays..well I suppose if you can find one.

well i dont know what u guys call it, but i found some jumpers on the motherbord and labeled clockspeed. it was at 66 so i increased it to 85 or something. now the processor runs at 233. there was a setting for 100 too but when i ran it the processor went at 250 but i got a windows protection error.
the main thing is will it harm the processor if I run it at 233 ? and why wont it work at 250 ? also there were some settings for the agp with the CPU clock function. i had to change that in order to change the speed. so will there be any repurcussions ?

You are oclocking the fsb running at 85mhz. It supposed to be 66mhz fsb. Set that then keep switching the multiplyer setting unitl you get the 200mhz its supposed to be. This is how intel pentiums were with there stepping. ;) Also you are now oclocking your hdd video and soundcard along with everything else on your pc. Not good to raise the fsb like that without knowing its concequences.

There should be a multiplier jumper on the board somewhere or it can be changed in the bios. Consult your manual.

There should be a range of jumpers saying things like "2.5 3 3.5" etc. After setting the FSB to 66MHz, set the multiplier to 3 by moving the jumper over to 3. On a board so old I doubt you'll be able to change the multiplier in the BIOS.

if you had a 200, then 3.0x is probably your max multiplier.
if you run at 2.5x100, you better make sure your ram can handle 100mhz (aka pc100). also make the clock divider 2/3 for agp instead of 1/1. you need to keep the agp close to 66mhz and pci close to 33mhz for it to work. 85 is about as high as you can go with 1/1.
you may need to pump up the voltage also, but that's what I do LAST.
