Dovaka 04-12-2001, 05:55 PM i need to buy a 3D card for my friends new dell computer but it only has pci slots in it so im wondering what the best 3D card for the job any suggestions are welcome thanks dosmastr 04-12-2001, 06:57 PM according to maximumpc magazine the Voodoo 5 5500 PCI is the best PCI video card, to ever be made because no one makes PCI cards anymore, however the company that made it - 3dfx, is now out of business (they were recently bought by nvidea, the maker of all the Geforce cards) 3dfx made it because they were hoping the niche would help them stay alive, it helped, but not enough. Voodoo 5 5500 PCI don't pay more than 200 for it, its a rip off at anything higher than that. ( A because it's PCI, B because its maker is now defunct, and C because Ati and nVidea have cards out now that run rings around the voodoos of any flavor, for less then $150 ) Good luck Bob The Great 04-12-2001, 07:50 PM I've suggested this card allot! It's a PCI version of the GeForce2 MX. It costs a little more then a normal one, and is a tad slower. But it's still a good deal! Take a look here http://www.targetpc.com/hardware/video/innogf2mx/ I'm pretty sure thats the card. But you might want to do a search for "PCI GeForce2". Good Luck! hotrodder 04-12-2001, 09:25 PM http://ocie.safeshopper.com/ falcompsx 04-12-2001, 11:17 PM creative makes a pci MX too.... Hellmund 04-13-2001, 05:20 AM What kind of price range are we talkin about? The Voodoo3-3000 are the best PCI card I've used and it's quite cheap, no 32-bit color but it flies on 16 bit.I've seen some real cheap at computer shows/fairs,for i'd say a round a bout $60 US.Hold-up, your said my friends new dell computer. I'd do like the others said and go the MX route, if indeed it is a new system the MX shouldn't be wasted, I just assumed since it had integrated Vid it'd be old. Mykex 04-13-2001, 09:00 AM "and C because Ati and nVidea have cards out now that run rings around the voodoos of any flavor" No,but thats more of an Anandtech thing to argue that point. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gifFaster is not the only way to judge a card there are quality issues in Drivers/2D/3D and FSAA that only the overpriced GF3 can touch. Dovaka 04-13-2001, 10:17 AM i have no real price limit for this since im not paying for it and she jsut wants the best card for her system this all came about when she called me and asked why tribes 2 was running like **** on her computer i had to rush over there just to slap her accordingly Mykex 04-13-2001, 10:43 AM Tribes2 LOL that figueres tell her to hold tight until they finish patching that $%^&*#@. daveleau 04-13-2001, 07:14 PM Yes, I have a CL GeForce 2 MX. Best PCI card for gaming. Dave SysOpt.com
