Long story. Need to find out for "sure" what drum set the band Metallica uses.
I "think" it's TAMA from searching. A co-worker of my spouse has a set to sell and says it's the same type that Metallica uses. But she thinks it's something like "Toms" or "Toams" or "Thomes".
Hey..sorry...I like country, pop, bagpipes,...almost everything except heavy metal. But my 15 yr old daughter has been taking percussion lessons. Actually she's quite good and the tutor is very impressed. But...now she's bugging us to buy a drum set for her very own. (The banks already broke...and can't afford a great amount.)
Thanks for any info/suggestions.

Thanks. Did find also, a contract spec sheet for booking them. He will accept Pearl subtitutions...but has to be top of the line. :D
Just double checking prices and such and what this guy wants to sell, maybe, my spouse.
Metallica hmmmm....not my type of music...but...they must have something going for them. I see they will be releasing a tribute to Walon Jennings (http://www.metallica.com/metdotcom/news/2002/oct4_james_wjtribute.html) soon. That might be interesting....:t

Metallica hmmmm....not my top of music...
BLASPHEMER!!
May you burn for that :p ;)
Metal is the only decent stuff around nowadays apart from crystal meth, meat beat, lunatic calm, FC Kahuna and the like. Pop music is same ol same ol, synthesised, synthetic manufactured baloney and numetal is the same just with a few guitar riffs thrown in and some black clothes and green hair so the rich kids can pretend to rebel against the "system" albeit mildly or else mummy and daddy wont let them go to piano lessosnb anymore
Real metal is the old stuff ;)

My buddy and I jam alot. Anyhow he's been playing drum "sets" like 20 piece and up for about 9 years. He likes the top model Pearls (not hte cheapo pearls), for the price. And I do think they sound dang good per $. I also agree with him Paste cymbols are ****. 3 days after use they were so full of dents they didnt produce the "ring" it should. Sounded totally flat like hitting a hub cap after that. Zyldian or however its spelled. they ar the best cymbols. Them and the pearl double kickers with holes in the head. Nice lows, not too thumpy that way.:)
PS. His biggest pet peave with drummers today. Over use of the crash cymbols. Hmmm thats about 80% of pro drummers. Hehe.

Pearls were on Metallica's list as substitutes for Tama's. (Dunno...guess they don't always take their own stuff to bookings.)
Good info. Ouch. Just saw the prices on top of the line Tama's...if I get those I won't have enough left over to soundproof my daughter's room. Oh well, there's always the detached garage. ;)

I did late 60's-early to mid 70's local band gigs with Wood Ludwigs that I couldn't afford now if I found them. A good brand now for a working( or wanting) rocker is CB Drums and Sabian cymbals. They are a good base to build on. The thing is you need a small set to start. Too many pieces distracts form learning to BE A RYTHM section. That is what stops most new percussionists. You have to be on the beat, every time. After a while, you find you have time to do more. Then you look for your next addition to your kit. Lessons do help. Reading music will help. You don't have too, but...., the very best mostly do. Music can be one of the most beautiful things for someone, I hope your daughter is one. I am.

Thanks for info. Plenty of food for thought. I suggested to my daughter that it might be best to start out simpler/smaller...but dad was...well...you know how dads are. :D But her percussion instructor tonight told her the very same thing and naturally he knows what he's talking about. :r Looks like he's found a set, fairly inexpensive, that we can get a pretty good deal on....Ludwigs something or other. Thanks again.
