I'm looking for info on the differnent specefications of motherboards.

I know the the basic layout of different motherboards eg. socket, slot1, slotA SDRAM slots and AT & ATX powersuply connectors.

Where do Celeron,Pentium 2,Pentium3, motherboards change from having an At connector versus an ATX connector ? Is there a good website explaning all this ?

Thanks......

AT went out with P2 MMX, basically. There was some overlap. Go ahead and ask 2 questions at a time until you get what you need here.

Hmmmmmmmm.... o.k.

So basically Pentium3 motherboards and up , require an ATX Power supply ?

What about AMD Motherboards and CPU's... do they also require ATX power supplys ??

Some AMD K2 motherboards could use either AT or ATX PSUs. AMD PCs went all ATX with the K3 AFAIK and Intel definitely required ATX with the intro of P3.

I have a older atrend P-2 motherboard that has hookups for both at and atx. So about that time i guess you could say they started switching

Not really. I mean I have a P3/P2 mobo that has slot1 and socket 370 both. Is micro atx and AT. LOL so it doesn tmean thats when they switched cause it has both. See what I mean.;)

It's the classic legacy problem.

Every time some new standard is introduced, be it for motherboards, processors, or peripherals, there are always some people who want to use some older piece of hardware and the new system. So the first few implementations often support both the new and old standards.

AT power supplies didn't linger as long as the ISA slot, but they did stay long enough.

As a general rule of thumb, K6-2/P2 or better should be ATX. It won't always be but it should.

some older P3s have AT and ATX support.. I know my friends Slot P4 450mhz does..and also my K63 has AT/ATX slots on the motherboard.
