I am currently running a PIII 500 in my comp. As it stands now, that is the only bottleneck I have (stats are below). Short of buying a new Mobo, what is the highest chip I can put in? I've heard 800mhz, but the source was a little "less than trustworthy", So any expert opinions are appreciated http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

How 'bout on a socket 7 running a 166? What would the highest be? (kids comp)

You're going to need to supply more info. What motherboards you are using? What bus speeds do the mobos support? What CPU voltages do they support?

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but it started out as a bare bones HP (I do beleive its an Asus Mobo)...I got as a gift from the wife (never turn down a gift from the SO!). I have since added everything else to replace the OEM **** (video, sound, NIC, slave HDD, and a Zip drive) But I have yet to tackle the CPU. I'll crack it open and see what adjustments are avail when I get home...

My "kids" system is self built, but I used a **** Mobo (soon to be replaced!)
