This one made me curious.

About a year agoI downloaded a demo game"bejeweled" at my wifes request.
it allows you x amount of plays before it requires you to purchase it. Wife plays until shown the pay or dont play, and then she sent in $20 and recieved a key. Thats all fine. Works great. But I recently found another game demo she played, from same source(POP-CAP?) some simplistic pirate game, and never purchased. The demo was finished,so you can't play it. I tried to download it again to see what it is and it tells me I must purchase it, no demo allowed. I don't want this game, aand I am not going to buy it.

But what is still in my files that this download can read? I cant find any trace in windows. There must be some file taking space somewhere. I don't like it.

Sorry for the length here, but I want to be clear.

This is not really a gaming issue now, it should probably be moved, or I will repost later.

Try setting your date back a few years :).

there will be a file on your system, more than likely the windows folder which represents a check digit. The prog will check the create date (i.e. when you installed it) and compare that to todays date...

do a search for files created on the day you installed the game.

O.P.
I rem the game in safe mode, and ran reg clean, change date to 1997, downloaded again still no go. Nice idea tho.

I have only a vague idea when she installed the trrial version. You are saying search for a win folder/ I'll try to narrow it down.

What else could be used as a marker? Wife now says that the trial v. could only be played 20 or 25 times before paying. So there must be a counter somewhere.

Thanks both.

Thx BPB.

Well, Ive removed every file folder and reference I can find and still no joy. It has to be somewhere in Windows. I'm out of ideas.

Most chances it's a registry encrypted key/some file in Windows directory and you'll never find it :(

I was afeered it might be something like that. Some one got paid a lot more to hide it than I'm getting to find it.:(

Maybe I will create a new user. Noone will buy this game based on a year old demo they cant even try. Altho it still doesnt fix my initial problem.:(
