I've got this athlon thunderbird @ 1.2ghz laying on my desk here..and i'm considering overclocking it, i'd like some good recommendations for a motherboard that'll be able to get it up to about 1.8ghz it was previoulsy running on an asus A7A266 but I think it might of crapped out..

The odds of you getting it that high are somewhere between slim and none.

You'll need one of these (http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/CCAM/vapochillp4.shtml) and at least 2.15V to even have a chance at getting to 1.8ghz. :p

EPoX probably makes the best OCing boards... However, I think you're being a touch optimistic thinking that it will go anywhere near 1.8GHz... Definatly not with standard air cooling.

Hmm I saw something a while ago and this guy got his to like 2.1ghz .. but I was too stupid to remember what motherboard he used :'(

A 1.2 Tbird at 2.1.

Right . . . . . . :p

A 20% overclock on a Thunderbird is near the outside limit without raising voltage levels and generating too much heat. Had mine at 10.0 X 140 MHz, but I was more stable at 10.5 X 133 MHz. That was on an Iwill KK-266+.

Some Tbirds overclock surprisingly well. Jak had a 1.0 that went up to 1.5. :)

I just don't think 2.1 is reasonable from a tbird, even with a vapochill setup. :p

Not if you want to keep it for a while. A .25-micron K6-2 could do 600MHz, it would just require 2.8-3.2 volts and vapochill.

I don't think you need vapochill to get a k6/2 to 600 mhz. That would only be a 50 mhz overclock on a k6/2 550! :p

According to this, (http://www.cpudatabase.com/CPUdb/) a few people have got their k6/2 550s to 700 with peltiers. :p

I had my G/F's mom's K6/2-500 to 560 on a FSB/Multi and voltage mod, all the while on air cooling. It was somewhat stable, but probably needed more cooling to be really stable :r

while everyone is talking about the old K6 series..can anyone explain why this K63 I have is only running at 350mhz? While the K6-2s went up to 550 mhz :\ I dont see the point in creating a new processor thats slower than their old processor :(
