What the heck is that anyway??? Its 195 pages long! I'm not running an English version of MS Word, and it appears to be some kind of story or something. A bit difficult for me to understand since it's in a different language.... What does it say on the English version?

that sentence is one used which uses every letter of the alphabet. there are a couple others but that's the most common. it's useful for seeing how a font looks.

Thank you Imperion1 for pointing out that i didn't do this as a benchmark, altho most people seemed to think that. I just done it since i thought it was pre t kewl. I think i might try it on my old pentium 133 and see how it goes! hehe see if i can beat sweeper http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif)

Captpete, i think the large discrepencies in total pages is from people using different fonts/sizes, or they havent used (200,99).

Anyways, i gotta get going, i'll probably post my p133 socre later

Try different numbers in the field such as = rand (200,1) and you get different patterns of the sentence.

Tried it on my computer at work.
P3 750 512mb ram.
And still running WinNT4 SP6.
The company I work for is so behind. The computer has the built for Windows 2000 sticker on it. I think Micron had Win2k installed on it because it also has the Product Key # for Win2k stuck on top of the case also.
Its a Micron Computer set up for CAD.

Took about a second just to pull up 135 pages.

My computer here at home was faster than that.
Of course my t-bird 750 runs better and faster than my work computer.

Alrighty, i just tested my Pentium 133 (no MMX). Done it in 5seconds. that was with (200,99) so no cheating done. Not a bad time i reckon, but still sweepers 1second on a p166 wins. (altho its probably got MMX which would be an advantage i think).

The Answer from the Microsoft Knowledge Base as to what this is:

Q157373 - How to Insert Sample Text into a Document

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY
Microsoft Word allows you to quickly insert sample text into a document. To do this, type =rand() in the document where you want the text to appear, and then press ENTER.

The inserted sample text appears similar to the following:

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.¶

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.¶

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.¶
This feature is turned on by default, and is disabled when the Replace text as you type option is turned off. To turn this option on or off, click AutoCorrect on the Tools menu, click the AutoCorrect tab, and then click to select or clear the Replace text as you type check box.

To view the paragraph marks (¶) in your Word document, do one of the following:
On the Standard toolbar, click Show/Hide (¶).

-or-

On the Tools menu, click Options. On the View tab, click to select the All check box, and then click OK.

NOTE: Word will not insert sample text when the insertion point immediately follows either a PAGE BREAK or a COLUMN BREAK.

MORE INFORMATION
By default, the sample text contains three paragraphs, with each paragraph containing five sentences. You can control how many paragraphs and sentences appear by adding numbers inside the parentheses.

The =rand() function has the following syntax

=rand(p,s)
where p is the number of paragraphs and s is the number of sentences that you want to appear in each paragraph.

Examples:
=rand(1) inserts one five-sentence paragraph of text

=rand(1,1) inserts one one-sentence paragraph of text.

=rand(1,2) inserts one two-sentence paragraph of text

=rand(2) inserts two five-sentence paragraphs of text

=rand(2,1) inserts two one-sentence paragraphs of text

=rand(10) inserts 10 five-sentence paragraphs of text

=rand(10,1) inserts 10 one-sentence paragraphs of text

=rand(10,10) inserts 10 ten-sentence paragraphs of text

NOTE: When you omit the second number, the default is five sentences of text. The maximum number that can be used inside the parenthesis is 200 (this number may be lower depending on the number of paragraphs and sentences specified).
