What would be the best motherboard to buy along with a P4 2.53 (socket 478)? I'm sort of hooked on Asus. I've always used that brand, and the only problems I've ever encountered was with my older P3B-F. It was Photoshop related (documented bug with Adobe regarding a flaw on the P3 & P2B-F's IDE channels that caused a lock-up when opening very large files. I'm looking to stay clear of any integrated boards. Thanks.

Asus and Abit are the big Intel players. MSI does well as does EPoX. I would stick with them. Did you ever consider Intel motherboards?

They are quite good.

As Bill said, those are all top brands. Intel's own motherboards are perhaps the most stable of all but lack ANY overclocking features if you care about that. I'd suggest any board of those brands with the i845PE chipset and the features you need.

Actually, the latest Intel boards can be overclocked:

Good! Intel's getting a clue! They always did make a good motherboard, they just hated overclockers. Glad they're getting over it.

The initial benchmarks with Granite Bay didn't look that impressive. I think you'll be fine with the 845PE previously suggested, P4PE if you like ASUS.

Thanks for the replies. I just might go for the P4PE. LOL, can't seem to break away from Asus.

Well, it's hard to argue with success, is it not? ;)
