I shoulda added a vote for "When the SX9 Cards Become Cheap" just vote for the "2nd Generation cards come out" option, cause that's when their likely to come down in price. )-|

Ooops, If I could edit the poll I would, maybe a nice moderator would do me a favour and add it in. :t

I have D9 drivers for my card as well, doesn't mean it's going to support the features.

Not upgrading specifically for DX 9, but my new card will be a recent Radeon with DX 9 support. Maybe a 9500 Pro. $178 at New Egg for a card that performs like a Ti4600 ain't bad at all, is it? :D

I'd stick with what you have and until it becomes choppy and unplayable. Not many games are going to take advantage of D9's features until late next year. By then there will be cheaper versions of the G FX out and nVIDIA generally will give you much less headaches than an ATI card will. But we all are fans of a given brand, so I'll let the ATI fanboys speak there word. :)

If you read the readme on ATI's site for the newest dx9 drivers. It staits that the lowest gpu its supports is the 8500 right now and most of the features are supported.;)

I'm curious to know if an 8500 will be able to use 64 or 128bit color depths without it being programmed into the hardware? The 8500 should be able to handle DX9 games no prob (if you have a descent system)
If yhe lowest GPU ATI will support is the 8500 then I guess that leaves my old Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO out in the dust :( Well at least my 8500 is still in the game :)

$1500-P4 Gamer: Thanks for the clarification (generally stay far away from ATI's unless I have to get one of them working on someone else's machine - hence I don't know what it's full technical capabilities are). Does the GPU handle it, or does it take SiS's route and politely ask the processor to do stuff for it? :)

Its in hardware or else the 7500 and etc. would be supported. The 8500 has alot of gpu features not on the 7500, hence the huge speed dif.;)

I'm really curious when the full public release of DX9 will be out? Last time I read, it was supposed to be out by November 2002.
Anyways... :t

I certainly would consider upgrading if it had any merit or use for me, but I don't see any yet so ???

Sure the dx9 will work. All dx versions will work with some software running to make up for non compatability. I was refering to the actually drivers of the card being dx9. BIG difference. You arent supporting a single function of dx9 in hardware untill the drivers support it. You are just running dx8 with some software extra's.;)

Yup, and the sweet thing is that now we already got Hardware drivers that Actually uses the DX9 features

BUT.... is too bad we have no real games that uses the DX9 :p

only those few video demos

oh well :(

2 good things about that though.

1 longer dx 8.0 compatablility testing with drivers than nvidia. You know for the games we have now. Giving them way more time to iron out the bugs.

2 they are in with M$ on developing dx9 so who else should be best informed on the new features and how to implement them into Hardware..., hehe.:D

Hehe they beat that release date. Its for the "public release of the beta". Public release means you and I can download it not just a select few on a beta team. This is usually how m$ does it. Anyhow all along they said early 2003 for the "official public release". There is a dif. Both are public releases ya know.:)

I'm not getting a card until DX10 comes out. As for DX9, well, not the R300, that was rushed
