I'm always open to a new OS, but with the difficult installation involved, and seemingly little popularity, what is the advantage of FreeBSD?

BipolarBill 12-08-2002, 11:23 PM It's as close as you can get to Unix without buying all new hardware. Cpl_Squirrel 12-09-2002, 08:34 AM It has better stability than even GNU/Linux. You should only really care if you're running a server though. Of course this argument is popular too... http://www.xs4all.nl/~marcone/bsdversuslinux.html acid_burn~187 12-10-2002, 08:59 AM Linux definetly has the most user friendly interface to any of the Unix's, FreeBSD is close but they still have some work to do. However BSD is far superior when it comes to a server environment. The BSD kernel is more stable than Linux's and it's network and routing capabilities far surpass anything Linux can do. If I'm running a high end server (something that is going to be serving millions of hits an hour) then I'd definetly use a BSD box over anything else. Or a SUN but the hardware costs a fortune.
