I want to reformat and reinstall windows on my computer and any advice would be gladly appreciated. I have the option of using my option of using my copy of win 98 se, or getting ahold of a free upgrade copy of of win Me from my school to use. What would you suggest? I have a cd-r drive and I have already made copies of the newest drivers for all of my devices, can you think of anything else I should do?

Just for the fun of it here are my system specs.

Gigabyte MB
550 mhz k-7
12.6 Ibm HD
256 mb ram
voodoo3 3000 agp
3dfx tv tuner card
SB Live platnium
Diamond modem
Linksys NIC
pioneer DVD drive
Iomega cd-rw drive

ps. it was a falcon northwest off the shelf model.

I have been using ME for about 6 mos, with very little problems. I have it on 2 machines, a K7 900 T-bird and a K6 550 w/asus board. If you need instructions on how to fdisk and reformat let me know, I will e-mail a doc I have. mjlcarguy

Stick with 98SE. The trivial little updates that ME has, isn't worth the pain and hassle.
I bought ME, used it for 2 months, when I finally tried to play some games they wouldn't work. Reinstalled 98SE, no problems playing the games that ME wouldn't run correctly.
For example: Thief2 Metal Age, got the audio for no visual. Tried the fixes that tech support emailed for me to try, didn't help.

Red Alert2, after 5 minutes into the game the system would lock up. And it wasn't a heat problem.

I had no problems upgrading to WinME, just had to keep everything from starting every time the computer would reboot.
