I have a couple of old windows disks ( win 95 osr2 & 98) which over the years i have lost the manuals & keycode.

is there anywhere on the disk where it stores the code or do I need to buy an old manual off someone who has lost or broken the disks?

all that will be on the disks will the alogorithm which calculates the checksum/validation. The disks are just duplicated, not created induvidualy - hence why MS have so much trouble with piracy (+ their prices)

The place it is stored in 95/98/ME is within the registry once it has been installed.

To get the key you will have to buy/get an old manual/licence from someone...not much else you can do legally, sorry.

Thanks Stefan,
that was what I thought, still they are only a couple of pounds to buy old manuals

Email Microsoft with a scan of the disks you own. They may (big maybe) send you new cd keys.

also if they are charging you some real good money just check up whether you can buy a newer version of windows at a cheaper price with the key ofcourse...when i had lost my Me key they were in real horrible mood to charge some bucks for gettin a new one.

I ended up getting XP Home Retail at a bargain price at a local Microsoft Show..instead.
