Just curious. soon DVD-RW will drop price like waht Cd-r did before. Did u know taht DVD can hold up to 4.7GB.. isn;t taht enough storage solution... RIght now a cheap DVD-RW can purchase as low as $250 & DVD cd lowest is .88 cent . Alex Iannuzzi 12-08-2002, 06:26 AM How about a USB Hard Drive like Maxtor: Exclusive Maxtor OneTouch 80GB USB 2.0 and 1.1 compatible or you could get a Maxtor 250 GB!!!! optic_pro1430 12-08-2002, 08:05 AM A combination of the three is my vote for now... but when DVDs drop down way low as CD-R's today.... definitely.... tho it's unlikely that'll happen... :) BipolarBill 12-08-2002, 08:49 AM Why is a RAID array listed? Backing up a single drive to RAID is silly - the backup would be faster than the target. Why not a simple, large HDD in a mobile rack? That's kind of what I was saying by saying USB Maxtor External HDD, which was 80-250 gb. )-| BipolarBill 12-08-2002, 09:03 AM While USB drives are fine for backing up files, I'd rather Ghost an installation with IDE. USB controllers are too fickle to be depended on in DOS. I rather buy a DVD-RW and record into DVD (4.7GB storage) czu dvd really a big solution for me.. WHY? czu i have over 30GB japanese anime and i dont want to delete it.. and then i ask my cousin to record it into dvd took 2 DVD to record like 8GB+. causticVapor 12-10-2002, 01:07 PM Originally posted by BipolarBill Why is a RAID array listed? BipolarBill 12-10-2002, 01:10 PM Be that as it may, a single large IDE drive in a mobile rack is the most versatile solution - always has been. AllGamer 12-10-2002, 01:39 PM I Absolutely Agree Cheap, Fast and Reliable :D and Very Very Cost effective ;) omega31 12-10-2002, 07:39 PM That's what I do. I have 2 mobile racks in my system. BipolarBill 12-10-2002, 07:48 PM Wassa matta? Got one of those W-I-D-E motherboards in there? Hehe - your bottom mobile rack is on Viagra! :D omega31 12-10-2002, 08:35 PM Board is P2B-F, not a very W-I-D-E mobo. The bottom rack is sticking out because the bottom bay is too tight. If I shove it in all the way to match the others, the tray would be difficult to insert. So, I just left it like that, if only to be different. :D causticVapor 12-11-2002, 12:16 AM I wanted to put that up there, but I suppose I forgot :x Oh well, all you rack users can go say "large HDDs with raid etc.." it'll fall under the category.. which depends upon how one defines category :D Personally, I think thumb drives with flash memory are the way of the future b/c of their lack of clunkiness/low profile. Once flash memory prices start going down, maybe in 20-30 yrs, I'll get myself a 240TB thumb drive that's the side of a quarter :D SysOpt.com
