I am building a system (XP200, PCchips 835LR, 400Watt PS, Win98) and I bought a PNY TI4200 to put in. I have had major compatability problems that I haven't been able to resolve. So the card is going back. Now...It I by another brand of TI4200 card will I still have the same problem???? Also, If so, then what card should I try? I would like to avoid these problems if I could.

Thanks

ps. I downloaded all the updated drivers for the MB and the card. Still just locked up every time.

OK, If it is the MB, what suggestions do you have to change to. Lets to stay in the budget now mind you.:D

Also, how do I know if it will fit the case that I have? Are all ATX cases built on the same design.

But isn't the ECS K7S5A SiSŪ 735 basically the same card as the 830LR (You were right, It is 830 not 835)?

   That's the board that I have. Why do I have the problems? Mine is the 830LR onboard sound and LAN. What kind of video do you use? What drivers are you using?

GrowingSlowly - go thru the troubleshooters here (if you haven't already):

http://www.ocworkbench.com/2002/ecs/k7s5aguide/

Barring that, I'd just return it and get another of the same board. I don't have any experience with these, but I've heard that there are a few bad apples in the bunch, but when you get a good one, it's really good.

If you don't want another one of those, I'd take a look at the M7VIP, as well (the second link that Benssax provided). Most of the Biostar boards get pretty good customer ratings on the newegg site. I'm considering purchasing that one or the M7VIT, myself. :)

Make sure you don't have a PCI card installed right next to the AGP port.

AllGamer- I am sure you don't even have experiance/or limited with the board so that a pretty bad comment on a company in whole.

Were is Peter Missel when you need him?

That is a decent board and is a pretty crappy response to his problem.

What is the stats on the powersupply?
Also have you tried any other cards?

If it's a Biostar board, don't count on overclocking it at all, they have the fewest options and are some of the most unstable boards when overclocked even slightly (FSB 101 - no post)... FSB 100, works fine. That was a good while back when I had Biostar board, but I've heard the same from those with newer boards (I had the KT133A chipset) - they just aren't stable boards for an overclocker/optimizer. Even if you keep the core at about the same speed, they don't like the FSB being toyed with at all. They are cheap and dependable, just they aren't something that you'll be able to overclock.

SomeoneStupid - Yep, I've heard that you can't overclock with a Biostar board. Personally, I have no interest in overclocking, but true - if overclocking is something that SlowlyGrowing plans on doing, he should probably stick with the k7s5a/pc chips counterpart, as I think there is an overclocking-friendly bios available (as opposed to the one it comes with originally).

crucibelle- Yea, but it only has options to change the FSB, not voltage mult, ect :)

IF you want to overclock, either grab yourself a Epox

crucibelle- you were kinda right. :)

The only reason I know is I have that board in a system and have used both the Honeyx and Cheepoman OC bios.

(Cheapoman is better) :D

WooHoo! It's working! After reading all the posts, I decided to give it one more shot. I reformated the hard drive and reloaded windows, Directx and Nvida drivers and it worked. The only difference was that I loaded the high performance settings in the bios instead of the base drivers. Why did they work? I don't know yet, but I do plan on finding out. Thanks so much to all that contributed. You were all very helpful and knowledgable. :t
