I have used them all, getright, go!zilla, reget, and finally "download accelerator".
and I can say that they all suck.
getright likes to get-hang.
go!zilla is so complicated that it's usual to lose your progress (besides the annoying but crackable banners).
reget its just a little piece of shareware.
"Download Accelerator" nice and simple and its suposed to increase your rates on a big bandwith, but I suspect that they use somekind of spyware, and they also have this bugging banners.
so whats your choice??
why IE doesn't support resume or ftp search on their donwload manager??? im sure that thats easier than using some outside software?

Netzip download demon is full of spyware!
Most of the download managers have it, but I know in the paid version of Getright, you can remove it and Getright still works. (I don't know about the others, it may be the same with them also.)

I've used getright for a year now, no complaints
Esp. when Im downloading 20MB+ or more files, the segmented downloading feature as well as the alternate URL feature come in handy.

i've used go!zilla for years and find it great. have upgraded to v3.9 fullversion, the zipzilla can be a bit annoying sometimes, but it does simplify things. as you say its a bit complicated at first but its good.
I quite liked getright but after you get used to one program its hard to change.
I understand that the new real player has a download facillty as an add on but ive not tried it yet
Try netvampire (think they've stopped developing it but 3.3 is still available).

I think you should know that all the download software in use today sends a log of your downloads to the owner of the program. Real download sends to Real, look here: http://grc.com/downloaders.htm
Then check the home page of GRC.com

LOL. Good one Rob. But you never know if micro$oft put hidden spying code in it!
Since I have a cable modem, I'm glad I don't have to deal with these download utilities . But when I'm away from home and stuck to 56K, I've used gozilla without any problems. I just don't like the way they try to spice up the display with fancy download meters and all the junk ads. Just make sure to UNcheck the spying option if you use this.

I have most of the known d/l managers and i agree that ALL of them suck.... Getright and Gozilla suck BIGtime.
I use "FlashGet" (http://www.amazesoft.com/download.htm)made by Amazesoft (http://www.amazesoft.com/) and i got two words to say "It Works" http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Flashget is COMPLETELY different because it establishes "multiple simultaneous connections" to the source server and get's different parts of the file through each connection at the same time.
For those who need an explnation, this is how it works.....
Suppose server X supports 30KB/s maximum per connection. So, even if u are on a 300KB/s capable line, u will get a maximum of 30KB/s since u are at the limit for ONE connection. (All d/l managers, except flashget, use this single connection, and so the max speed is only 30KB/s)
This is where the Flashget style comes into use. Flashget splits the file into a number of segments , example 10 pieces, (min1 max10) and assigns each segment to a seperate connection. That means, u have 10 simultaneous connection to the server, each with a speed limit of 30KB/s, which means.... you will get a total d/l speed of 300KB/s (30KB/s x 10) from server X, and therefore a full utilisation of ur downstream.
Flashget, btw, supports all the functions included with other d/l managers.
Try it, u will LOVE it

I use FlashGet too, and I have to say it works for my connection too, got a 512kbps cable connection, and download nearly to my full bandwidth near 65kb/sec and remains constant.

THE FINAL SENTENCE:
-getright,gozilla, and pretty much all of them suck.
-Download accelerator is acceptable.
-Flashget is the choice of people who relly need this program, but it's also a little more complicated than the rest. it looks like its a very robust program, not like
Get-hang
do u agree?

At home, I don't have to worry too much, I'm running cable modem.
When I'm at my mothers house, upgrading her and my sisters computers (2) the download times are annoying when a 2 mb download takes like 10 minutes. They're both running 56k modems. I keep trying to tell them to go with cable, since my other sister works with the cable company and basically lives there instead of her own home.
She gets cable service free (legit), and probably would only have to pay for the modem.
But, no download utilities over there. They mainly use the internet for chat and web browsing.
What utilities? Just use Windows.
