After Leprachaun's sermonizing I went out and got myself an optical trackball. I'm trying it out now, do I look any different?
It took conscious effort to aim at that smiley face there, hope you appreciate it!
I think I better change my name and only go to newbie fragfests online for the next little while...:D

Sermonizing??? moi???
naw, I'm just really enthusiastic:D
But, if you have the right kind of trackball and take time to become accustomed to it, I think you'll love it:x :x

So far so good, I'm going to load up a little Doom now and see if I get myself blown to bits.:x
I got one of those M$ Optical side rollers... I would have gone with the Logitech but no scroll wheel! Shame on you Logitech!
Navigating around the desktop took about an hour to get the hang of. I'm still not hitting everything first time, but it's getting much better.
Gaming is another thing entirely...

Logitech does offer trackballs with scroll wheels, go here, and take a look:x

Hope you get used to it, I will never use a mouse again, unless I'm beaten into submission:r :r

The best trackball ever in my humble opinion is the Microsoft Intellimouse Trackball with two thumb buttons and a scroll wheel. They quit making it a few years back so I had to actually rebuild mine a few times. It's five years old now and I am still waiting for a better one to come out. If they would make the same product as an optical I would order today.

Logitech Marble here, and I can kick your **** at UT, especially at high speed.:D
I never did use a mouse. First, because I'm a southpaw and most mouses were designed for right handers. Second, I have no room on my desk for a moving device.

Sounds like you're using the same trackball as me...! I agree, it's a nice product. There is an optical version available you know. It comes with a USB / PS2 adaptor. However it is silver, not white and is a vety different shape. Two variations exist, one finger operated (the best) and one thumb controlled.
Why did you have to rebuild your mouse and how did you do it...?
Curious.

Been using logitech trackman wheel mouse for years now. It took a little getting used to in the beggining but now I'd never go back to regular mices LOL.
Plus the fact that they take up very little real estate on your desk is sweet.
The trackman marble I have is still working 100% even after millions of miles on it.

Eventually the spring wore out that keeps tension on the scroll wheel, and one on the thumb button eventually lost it's tension too but I was able to stretch it and get working again. It's a good idea to clean it out inside with the bottom plate off once a year or so. This mouse has been worked to near death death but is still working good now.

My ex-wife 'forced' a trackball on me 4 years ago.
We split... she left, the trackball stayed.
'Nuff said.
