Up until about a year ago I routinely played East Front II from talonsoft. When I purchased a new PC, however, I never got around to loading it. Yesterday afternoon, I attempted the install, 3 times. Each with the same result, the game deleted itself immediately after install...... with no intervention from me.

For reference, the PC I'm attempting to load the game onto is a fairly straight-forward PIII-667, 128M RdDram, 30+G Drive, Cd-Rom, CD-RW, Sound Blaster Live, etc..running Win98SE as an OS. My earlier PC was a PII400, 128Sdram, smaller drive, CD-Rom only, Sound Blaster Live, etc...also running Win98SE.

The following is a file-by-file listing, as recorded by GoBack, of what was occuring just as the last file was being installed, the file activity that preceded the program deleting itself, the first file that was deleted and the final moments when three program directories were deleted.......weird.

Prior to the following, about 15 minutes of files had ben installed via Install Shield.

5:16.03 File Created
C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\East Front Ii\Uninst.isu

5:16.03 File Deleted
C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\East Front Ii\Uninst.isu

5:16.03 File Renamed
C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\East Front Ii\East Front.exe TO
C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\East Front Ii\_Fty0.231

5:16.03 File Renamed
C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\_Fty0.231 TO
C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\East Front Ii\East Front.exe

Then, at 5:16.08, the remaining files begin being deleted, followed by the deleting the Directories:

C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\East Front Ii\Special

C:\Program Files\TalonSoft\East Front Ii

C:\Program Files\TalonSoft

Poof, all gone! Other than <clicking> on "Proceed" to begin the install and "Register Later", I never touched the PC in any way; it simply switched from install to delete-mode over a 5 second period.

Would appreciate any insights. One,I really like the game. But also, two, after foolin' around with PCs for over 15 years, this one is a first, at least for me.

Either pause or a few minutes before registration and use goback to restore back to the time right before directory deletion,or try filling in registration info.
I dont like to register any software and oftentimes programs wont install without it.I use Bill E. Goat or Bill Gates as ficticios names.

Marty.........thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, while we did attempt to register the software, we could gain access to TalonSoft. And, (not being a wise-*** here) can you tell me how to now when to pause just before the Registration Screen comes up?

As for using GoBack to "rebuild" the drive just before the deletion process begins, won't work. The point at which I'd have to begin the rebuild is not considered a "Safe Point" by GoBack, warning me that the system may become unstable if I don't rebuild at a Safe Point. Sounded like a good idea at the time, but on second thought.............

Thanks again for the suggestion. If I can't use the program, Oh Well. I'm just curious what would cause this glitch to occur?
