Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Can a AMD K2 be salvaged
The teen center received a donation this week of an old 133mhz pc, of an unknown brand. It is an AMD K2 133mhz. No motherboard name that I can find. The cpu socket is labeled socket 3. It boots up just fine but I noticed right away that the cpu fan is not working. Since the fan/heatsink seem to be an all in one unit is it replaceable? I couldn't find anything on the internet for old cpu's. I would just use an external fan but can't figure any way to mount it to the case or cages where it would cool the cpu Can this pc be salvaged?

Easily. Just replace the fan if possible, or the whole heatsink if that's not possible. It doesn't really matter that much how well the heatsink works - it's only a 133 mhz.
You might be able to "make" a small socket a heatsink fit. That could work.

Radio Shack should have a cheap fan that you can put on it.

that is not a k6-2, it is a k5. it's basically a 486 or low pentium class cpu. by saying socket 3, that is a 486 board.
look for a 486 heatsink or just find a small fan and use the existing heatsink.

The CPU you've mentioned is actually an AMD 486 CPU running at 133-MHz! Any 486 CPU Heatsink/Fan would work on it as a replacement. As mentioned before, Radio Shack does carry such an item in their stores! :)
