OK.... here is the deal

I have a Win2K system with a SBlive Value and using the Altec Lansing 4 plus sub speaker system.

Will my system do surround sound in the SBlive system or not. If it does how do I EXACTLY set the mofo up

Right click on the volume icon in the system tray, click adjust audio properties, click advanced properties in the playback, scroll all the way down to surround sound. Click apply, and ok.

Open up the AudioHQ in the control panel, double click speaker, and set it for surround or 4.1 speaker. 5.1 is if you have 4 speakers a sub and a center.

Also do your speakers have two plugs, one for the front speakers and one for the rear.

The live value cards have a front and rear output for surround.
Live cards have those two and a third output for digital speakers.

Imperion1, I got my SBlive about 2 years ago and got the digital Spif? out on the card but not on the back....

I just have the Altec Lansing 4.1 speakers, not the 5.1 and they aren't digital.... so is there no way I can get surround sound going on these suckers.

I went into the speaker setup box for Creative Labs for Win2K v.3 for SBlive and set it up for Live Surround but only my front speakers make sound. When I use the 4 speakers all speakers make sound.

I have even tried the THX dolby test mp3 with Winamp but it doesn't work. I only get sound from my front speakers in Live!Surround.

Is this also right or do I havee to buy a newer version of Sound Blaster live and better speakers?

OH and BTW what I really want to do is have my computer be a true multi-media system.... I bought 5 DVD's lately (Gladiator to be exact!!!!) and want the surround sound and also I got a Hauppauge dbx-TV Stero tv tuner for my system and want this whole sucker to rock..... it rocks right now but I want the surround....

StarTrek sounds soooo much better with the engines growling in the background...

know what I mean....?

Yea, mine did the same thing. So I just set mine as 4.1 and all is well.
The surround usually works when the satellites connect to the sub, and the sub connects to the sound card. But it also depends on the way the speakers are made.
I have the Philips A2.500, its a 4 channel with sub. All four satellites connect to the sub using 2 connectors, 1 for the front and 1 for the rear. And then the sub has two connectors whick plug into the sound card, 1 front, 1 rear.
