I just installed Redhat Linux 7.1 on my PC. I installed it as a server enabling GNOME. I chose to run it graphic(GNOME) mode. since i used a partionless installation, i made a boot disk.

Situation2
No problems while booting
Linux had problems detecting my mouse.
I chose to "do nothing" (kept the configuration)
Linux will boot up to the log-in screen(text) then in 1sec or so the screen will go blank -- perhaps attempting to go in x-window mode. then the screen will go back to the log-in screen(text). I cant log-in...

Situation 2
While booting, it had trouble detecting my mouse.
chose to remove configuration.
It went to log-in(text mode). This time I was able to log-in(text).
this time the screen didn't go blank, and went to command prompt
when i typed the command 'startx'
then the screen went blank again as it did on situation 1.

What might be the problem.

My PC specs:
Pentuim3 450mhz
Intel 440BX chipset mobo
ASUS AGP-V2740 vid
Creative Ensoniq sndcrd
128mb PC100 SDRAM

I also tried installing as a workstation, server, custom......
same problem.

Thanks.

Could be a good idea to check if you've got the good drivers for your video card... Might not be the problem but could help... a lot of peripherals aren't supported by linux... you should check to see if your drivers are supported...

Hope it helps at least a little
;)

sounds like troubles with the monitor settings
next time you get to command prompt type in xf86config and hit enter. should take to where you can change the settings for your hardware.
