here's the deal. Up until this past year,i have never had enough programs installed on my win98SE os to fill up an entire column of the PROGRAMS menu. now however, i do, and it's really pissing me off that instead of just starting a second column when the first is to long, win98SE just puts a little arrow down at the bottom of the first column so that i have to scroll down to get the the apps that i want to use. can anyone tell me how to change this. i would assume that it's fairly simple, but I honestly don't want to spend the time to figure it out on my own.
Thanks

Why not create folders and/or group some of the stuff together?

There's a fix, & dang if I can find it. Searching.......
Here, this might be it:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\explorer\Advanced]
"StartMenuScrollPrograms"="0"

This one will add an option into your view menu that will let you toggle back an forth between a scrolling menu and colums.
There is a download, and a "cut and paste" on this page.
If this link does not take you right to it, then scroll down toward the bottom and look for the section "Toggle Menus". http://members.aol.com/axcel216/newtip16.htm#TOME
Hope that helps,
Dave

Steve has it right. You need to group some of the programs into folders. I made groups such as Utilities, Games, Office Apps, etc. It cuts down on the clutter.

The reg tweak is about the only way to get what you are asking for. Give it a try, it isnt such a big deal to carefully adjust values in there. Hell, most every program you install dicks with it, you might as well too http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
zskillz - try the link Dave_H posted and download the file called MenuCols.zip, unzip it, R. clk it, choose merge - yes, and you will have exactly what you have asked for. I just did it and it works fine. The choice between scrolled menus or not....life for your menus just doesnt get any better than that.
And check out some more reg tweaks on that great page posted....one could spend days there and have such fun http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

One little change.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\explorer\Advanced]
"StartMenuScrollPrograms"="False"
Make sure you put in "False" instead of "0"
I dont know, it might also work with "0" but i used "False" and it helped me.
Its very easy to do, there are also other reg tricks at regedit.com.
good luck

WinOS2, in the registry "language", 0(not the letter O!), false, and no mean the same. As does 1, true, and yes.
