Does anyone have any experience with or opinions on the Pacific Digital 2x2x6 CDRW? It's available for a good price (around $230 Canadian after taxes and rebate) in Future Shop, and I'm wondering if it's a good buy.

CMonster 08-05-1999, 12:26 AM I am using a Pacific Digital CDR, actually it is a Mitsumi 4X8 IDE CDR, and I am quite happy with it. But there was one problem early on, the unit & software would not do digital audio extraction from a music CD. And to further frustrate matters, I could not resolve this problem from the Pacific Digital website - I had to go to the Mitsumi website to find out about this bug; the problem was with the VIA Busmaster IDE drivers, I had to use either the Windows generic disk controlers or the VIA Highpoint drivers. I bought mine for $239 US just 6 months ago but they have been on sale lately for $149. Sorry, I do not know what manufacturer actually made the 2X2X6 CDRW so it is impossible for me to commnet on the specific model. I would recommend that you get at least a 4 speed write, that is 20 minutes for a full CD. I do not know if you will use the rewrite feature all that much. I get by with using multiple sessions, and CDR disks are fairly cheap now anyway. I don't like the idea of eventually having a bunch of useless disks lying around. And the speed wouldn't really bother me. cost is my main concern, support or no support. Thanks for the info guys.
