Troubles with the machine, I guess you got the video working http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Check the BIOS to ensure LPT1 is enabled.
Try another centronics cables.
I think you said you had two machines...test the printer on another machine.
About all that comes to mind now!

I think you might have an IRQ problem. Did you check to see if one of your modems took the printer IRQ (7)?

mjlcarguy:

The only device using IRQ7 is the printer port (LPT1).

Thx

Brangwen: This might be elementary but did you load the USB drivers by mistake? I have done that before. mjlcarguy

mjlcarguy:

No, I didn't do that. I think this is a situation where the order that the peripherals were loaded made a difference. In the past (on different systems) if I loaded sound before the printer, the printer wouldn't load. If I loaded the printer before the sound card, the sound wouldn't load. Hmm. Very irritating but a good puzzle! Thx for the suggestions and I welcome more!

Colleagues:

I know this can be a not very colorful topic, but I need my printer to print! I just built a system with following:

Iwill KK266 mobo
1.2 GHz T-Bird
512 MB PC133 SDRAM
30 GB Intel 7200 rpm 100ATA HD
Plextor CDRW
Creative CDROM 52X
SB Live Value
GEForce 32 MB AGP
PaperPort 3100 USB scanner
USB 20 GB Buslink drive
USB Zip drive
1 ISA voice/data/fax modem (Creative Modem Blaster)
1 PC! voice/data/fax modem (Diamond)
HP2100 Laserjet printer - NOT TALKING!

I run a one man law office and I need to print -- a lot. I have run the full gambit of troubleshooting attempts supplied by Windoze 98se on the Web, but to no avail.

I have checked cables, reinstalled drivers, reinstalled the LPT1 printer port, etc., etc.

If ANYONE can think of a potential solution for this printer that works on my previous Abit - PIII system, please post!

Thx! Brangwen http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Thx to all who contributed ideas in an effort to solve my problem. I'm almost embarrassed to write IT WAS A LOSE CABLE! The HP printer I use has one end of the cable in a housing. I removed the housing and saw it had become unclipped... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Oh, well. Another lesson...again!
