Mntsnow 04-05-2001, 09:21 AM LOL Not a good start! Best computer.....Mntsnow's Custom Computers http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif NDC 04-05-2001, 09:23 AM http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif Comtech 04-05-2001, 09:28 AM I AGREE! HP Rules around here. They make absolutely the BEST doorstops I've ever encountered, bar none! voogru 04-05-2001, 10:28 AM LoL Comtech, http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif rh71 04-05-2001, 11:06 AM I have one word for you... paper weight. (oops) struggles 04-05-2001, 11:49 AM Ever consider a psychological evaluation? NavyDood_ F/A18_Mech 04-05-2001, 07:37 PM HP PC's? bahhhhh Build your own and have something better. Bar None. HP peripherals? Yes........ codybear 04-05-2001, 07:42 PM dang does that mean that my daughters HP 4445 that never crashes and is the most stable system I personally have used and cracks rc5 24/7 without a burp and has for almost 2 yrs now is a POS?...thanks..thats good to know http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif never, never a problem with that one http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif and my daughter has put it through its paces krusty the klown 04-06-2001, 12:10 AM I agree with Navy_Dood - good quality peripherals. We were called to have a look at 4 networked machines that our IT dept couldn't get running (so they gave up). Turns out that these were a year old and had never really been used. HP Vectra desktop PCs... anyway after switching 3 of them on and getting "errr... what hard drive?" messages, we pulled the lid off to see that the hard drives had been mounted UPSIDE DOWN and 3 of them had seized solid. The clever engineers @ HP had NOT used the side screws, but the ones on the BOTTOM of the drive, so there WAS NO WAY THEY COULD BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED! Make ur own mind up! Richard_Cranium72 04-06-2001, 12:26 AM You are all FOS !! I have discovered the TRUE MEANING of HP It means High-Performance Ottoman ! The rounded top makes a very comfortable rest for the calf muscles http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif linux_guru 04-06-2001, 12:40 AM I always thought HP = High Price ! Richard_Cranium72 04-06-2001, 05:46 AM Well, I thought ths was a JOKE thread, maybe not. My sis's HP 8300 something with P2 400 and Mom's HP 6370 with P2 350 have both run for about 2-1/2 years with NO problems. But, My 6350 has had over 16 formats. Mostly my fault though from ignorant usage and going places where the script kiddies will blast you http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif DrVette krusty the klown 04-06-2001, 07:28 AM Worthwhile checking those HDDs IMO, Dr.V HDDs are more likely to seize if they are upside-down AND not used for long periods of time. If your boxes are regularly used, then they will tend to stay free, even if the disks are upside-down. Only trouble is that they can seize if, say, they are then left for a long time if ur on holiday. This might have been a 'feature' of tha particular model of desktop Vectra and not on later ones, or towers. jkac123 04-06-2001, 08:33 AM DELL DELL DELL RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ultima 04-06-2001, 09:45 AM Okay guys, repeat after me: AN HP PC IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY THEY ASK FOR IT!!! I still work at that company where they produce em, and nothing has changed. Pc's that are produced on a certain date, are regularly returned by customers within 4 to 5 weeks. And that is with about 2 weeks of shipping in mind, 1 week for getting it to the shop, and then to the customer. And the other week the other way round. I am telling you guys, you're better off building yer own pc, cause you don't wanna know what **** they put in these things. I mean, a Tbird 1.3Ghz system, with a 180W PSU?? common, that can't be good, especially when there is a hd, cdrw and dvd in there too. Duron systems that get passive heatsinks with only 1 system fan sucking air out of the pc??? You don't wanna have that, trust me. These heatsinks, I've really burned my fingers on em, that's how hot they get!!! If ya wanna know more, just lemme know. Ultima Underclocked 04-06-2001, 09:54 AM Seems like a pretty good start for a newbie to me, look at the responses. HP products, some okay - some NOT! HP service is pretty bad but they have at least made their website easier to navigate lately. Once you finally get in touch with a living being, their service can be okay. I use an HP printer and a remarked (Sony) HP burner with good results. Intel??? shadow 04-06-2001, 10:29 PM Clearly this is a joke, nobody could actually say that with a straight face, let alone believe it. Yep, the newbie got everyone's attention didnt he....all with our horrible experiences about HP computers. I wouldn't even consider buying one (and why do people still DO that?), but some of their peripherals, you bet...like this HP printer sittin here. Intel? Oh yeah, as a socket 7 owner I love where they left me hangin...at 233Mhz. Thanks to those fine AMD people I run my socket 7 at 600Mhz with a hot K6-3+ sittin at the wheel....talk about a hampster on steroids http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif And of course I'd pay way more for a 1GB CPU that doesnt perform as well as a cheaper one with the name AMD on it....right. I have two 466 Celerons and i have had any problems that weren't competely my fault. jad1097 04-06-2001, 11:02 PM Hey now wait a second! Are you saying the ink jet cartridge lines/robots/thingamajigs I built are not working right? I told them they should not have laid me off! Oh, you mean their Pc’s! You do know that PC stands for Piece of **** right. At least when it comes to HP. Bob The Great 04-07-2001, 12:14 AM For e-mailers HP's might work out ok (as long as the hard drive is mounted right side up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif But if your going to run anything else they chug! I've seen 1.4GHZ P-4 HP's tied to a TNT2 m64! Thats just not right! And they call this "The Ultimate gaming rig"! A? Come again! HP does one thing nicely though. Perhiprials! I love the printers, scanners, and such! Bottom line. I don't really like them. But if it works. Fine! Warthog 04-07-2001, 08:46 AM Gotta love the one time post whackos Kuasimodem 04-07-2001, 09:35 AM The only HP stuff I have is this 2 year old HP832C printer, and it is flawless!! Prints pics that look better than the originals! Quick and quiet, not like a Compaq, which sounds like it will take off at any minute! Oops! I forgot about my HP C200 digital camera, great budget priced camera (<$200) at 1 Mpixel. But I changed out the hard drive and did a fresh install of win98(without all the HP junk on there) and it flys now. I haven't had a problem with it since I've done that. ~Joel [This message has been edited by jl123 (edited 04-07-2001).] SysOpt.com
