I have three systems that have recently lost Internet Explorer. They all use AOL so I suspect that it had a lot to do with it--2 of the machines failed when AOL6.0 was installed, the other just went bad. I have tried reinstalling AOL and playing all sorts of games yet I cannot get one of the machines to get IE to function online. AOL connects, but the browser will not. Do I need to clean the registry? Will reinstalling Windows clean/CLEAR the registry?
Help, again http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

WOW!!!!! Thanks so much. How is it 6 calls or more to AOL get me nothing and one blurb here gets us back online no problem? I can't tell you how much I appreciate your assistance.

Do you know how to test a hub and network cards? I think one port of hub is frying cards--but no sure. They seemed to work then don't. Uninstalling and reinstalling might have worked for a few minutes but then it goes out again. Net Gear components--switched to NetGear Gateway Router Hub and new cards so things are finally working. Hooray!! but hate to throw out the old when I am not sure they don't work.

Step 2: done

Sandwich, your remarks are childish. Ever consider this is someone who has no choice in the matter? Duh.

Goombaz, if the cards fail using a certain hub, then work again a short time after reinstalling, but fail again, then they aren't truly fried. But there may be a hardware/software incompatibility, or a weakness in the hub. Best suggestion is to get someone knowledgable w/networks. Also, AOL does have some good networking boards, tho sometimes it takes some time before you get a decent reply. Lessee......type this in your AOL (not IE) address bar & hit go. Probably the networking hardware forum would be where to try.
