Modem Speeds

i have two computers almost the same except for a harddrive, video card, and memory. Both on the same phone line, same phone jack even but one connects @ 43,333 and the other 37,333 the fastest on runs the earthlink software is that the reason it is faster and how could i set the settings the same without the software beign installed on the other comp.?

How do you switch the phone line from one PC to the other?

Do you have identical internal modems or do you switch an external modem?

The modems are excatly the same and the drivers are the same. I have a thing that goes into the phone jack so that two ines can plug into it. U think one side is weaker than the other?
