bios?update

HI Everyone.
My ? is my mobo says it's bios upgradable from kt266/333.
i have not done this before.I have read that it can damage the bios if not done right.i also am using pc2100/would i have to change to pc2700/if i were to update.

You would probabely have to upgrade to new RAM but you could test the old RAM (just in case it would work).

Flashing a BIOS is a lot less scary than it once was. Go ahead and download the BIOS and flasher and go for it. Just make sure that you're not likely to have a power interruption during the process. In other words, don't do it during a storm.

Thanks guy's for the help!! :cool: i just don't have the cash for the new ram right now with the holliday's around the corner pc2700 is a little more money then the 2100 so i hope the 2100 will work after i update :D

Thanks Bovon!!:cool: That helped out alot.I also went to the soyo site and read up as much as i could there to.My bad i should have done that in the first place. :D I remember reading somewere that the bios upgrade changed it from the kt266/to the 333.just cant remember were i read it.acording to soyo this bios update alows me to run 2100+mhz-didnt say anything about the FSB/so maybe i would have to change this chip set physically.
Has anyone ever heard of updating the bios and changing the FSB/currently at 266. THANks :t

I will agree to that!! changen the fsb on this board allows very little room to do so.I thought i saw somewere that if update the bios that it would change to 333 from the 266 that i have now.
Now that i think of it/it was saundra that said my board was upgradeable to the 333/That would mean i would have to take the chipset out and replace it with the new one.or it would change with the bios update.i went to soyo and read the update info and said nothing of this changing.Only that i could put a faster cpu in 2100+.Im not in a big hurry to do this.just tryen to find out so i can do it later.worken on my knowlege base. :D

Frankly, upgrading from 266 to 333 with a BIOS update sounds like BS to me. I've never heard of it. You can't change your chipset without changing the whole board.

Check the notes on your BIOS update to see which CPUs it supports. Also look for the master CPU chart at the maker's web site.

I still don't know who makes your motherboard. :rolleyes:

Sorry it's a via kt266a motherboard soyo dragon plus.
So from what i have read in the soyo site is the update is for 2100+ cpu support .
i am running XP 2000@ 1750mhz.
I wasn't sure if it would change the ram i have pc2100 now didnt want to fork out the extra money if i needed to get pc2700
after i flash the bios.the soyo site did NOT cover that so its safe to say i should't have to go to pc2700.
Sorry for being such a newbe all this new techonology is getting to my head with all these things you can do.Thats why im here

You won't need PC2700 RAM - your board can only use PC2100.

im going to flash when im ready for the new cpu next month.gives me more time i already downloaded the dros7 and the update and put on floppy just a little nevous is all lol.
