I've got norton utilities and i've tried speed disk but it seems to take forever. Once it took about 8 hrs, and another time it was 5 hrs, so I just quit using it. I've only got explorer running at the time on my p!! 350mhz 8GB drive. How long has it taken you guys to use speed disk. Does anybody know if fix-it-utilities' defragplus actually defrags the swap file.
I,ve got Norton also and I have a 13.6 GB drive set up into 4 partitions..... each partition takes about 3-4 minutes to defrag so something wrong somewhere.... have u tried re-installing it ?? Or send them an e-mail.

Yeah,
I've got it too and it's far from taking that time to run. Try to close all of your other programs before using it. It might help even if I don't think so. In fact, I agree with Stu.

couldn't you just disable the virtual mem, the defrag the drive, then reset the virtual mem back to it's original setting??

okay, this probably won't be a popular post, seeing what my predecessors have said, but here goes...
You said all you were running was explorer....cool.
Now, right click on an "open" section of your desktop, click on properties, then to the screen saver tab. Select "none." You see, your screen saver may be trying to run after a given time, which will most likely cause defrag to re-start. Then, while at the screen saver tab, click on energy saving features, settings. Select Always On, in the uppermost field, then in the next three fields, select - never, never, and of course, never. Then click on okay, and okay again. At this point, there should truely be nothing hanging you up.
And, of course, alway run scandisk, or Norton's equivalent of scandisk before you run speed disk.
Personally, I run Nuts & Bolts. I bought it because it had the best overall reviews in one of the magazines I get - don't remember which one though -- ooppsss!
Anyway, try the above if you haven't yet, and if you want, maile me and let me know how it goes.
Take care, good luck

I agree with STU, Norton's does work good, try the reinstall, especially if you have converted from FAT16 to FAT32, Norton's Speed Disk has a problem with that, I had similiar problem, once reinstalled, it ran as fast as usual http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
