I've been looking into building a wireless network and have a few questions:

I want to build a network over four floors, from what I've seen I can get away with using two Access Points (100 metre range).

If I have 20 laptops with wireless cards and two printers using wireless bridges then all the hardware has wireless access.

In order to connect the two access points together I can use a switch (do I need to use one switch per access point as seems to be recommended by 3COM????)

How does communication work (route) between the network, if for example I wanted to access the files on another laptop?

If both network access points use the same subnet they should both see each other without needing an internediate router - the hub/switch should be able to identify the mac of each AP and transfer the data without any problems - dont understand why 3com recommend two switches - sales perhaps?

Can you give me the url for this advice - interesting!!!

you should really have 1 access point per floor. you can have them all connected to 1 switch. each access point will have to have a static ip, so make sure to exclude them from your dhcp pool.

you don't need a wireless bridge for each printer unless you can't run cable to them. since printers don't usually don't move, you wouldn't need a wireless connection. up to you.
