I was here posting a week and a half or two weeks ago about which card to buy and found the advice extremely helpful...and...I think I said that I would post back if I had any problems with the installing procedure...so here I am...I hope someone can help me...
to refresh anyone's memory about my system specs:

Compaq Presario 5011R, AMD Athon 1.1 Ghz, 768 MB SDRAM, Compaq FS740 monitor.

I can't use my GeForce 3 with my FS740 monitor... Can anyone tell me why? Has to do with resolution limitations maybe...?

Precisely I've done this:
Bought a $300.00 GeForce 3 w TV/S-Video out card.
Removed old drivers, then removed the old card (it was a TNT2). Installed new card, then installed latest drivers that I had downloaded from the Nvidia website.

It was at this point (that is, after installing new drivers and restarting) that I got the problem of an emblem appearing on my screen for a moment saying this: "Out Of Range Set Resolution Lower".
I can hook my Presario up to another (flat panel) Dell monitor (that I have on a temporay basis) and am able to view my GF3 post-installation results perfectly! and it looks like 'essentially' that I "successfully" got the card installed.
After all that, I was finally able to use my FS740 monitor but only on the minimal settings of: 16 colors
What is it about my FS740 monitor that I need to know? Something ridiculously simple probably.

HOW DO I ACCESS MY PRESARIO (WITH MY BEAUTIFUL NEW GEFORCE 3) VIA MY FS740 MONITOR!!!
(arrrrrrgh!)
Gahd! I hope I explained it clearly enough...

also, I wanted to mention that in the device manager the card shares the same IRQ # setting (03) as my firewire card but theres no conflict indicated. Just wanted to put that out there. Guess it's ok...

If anyone can help me with this I would be most appreciative to them...Thanks...

wanted to post follow-up on the heels of my original post and ask if the monitor/geforce3 problem stems from the detonators I installed...because I forgot to mention that I downloaded the same drivers some time back for the TNT2 card (the same download is for either/both the TNT2 and GeForce) which was
already in my system and had to uninstall them because I couldn't view anything but the emblem saying to lower resolution...that would suggest to me that it's a problem with/because of the drivers and not a problem with the card and the monitor per se.

Should I uninstall the drivers and use the one(s) that came on the cd with the card or what? All of that is just added information whether useless or useful.

I did a google search and got this link it's from kds, but will do the same for your monitor,,, sounds like your adapters default refresh rate is too high for your monitor,, most stock monitors come in arounds 60hz~ I think,,, check the back of your monitor it should tell you what the safe operating range is.. The link==http://www.kdsusa.com/faqs.asp

"your monitor could be a kds anyway,, compaq get's thier name put on it."
