GroundZero3 04-03-2001, 05:07 PM i have it on my computer at work. i love it to death. faster than internet explorer ever will be. kind takes some getting used to tho. But overall i use it all the time. Jason shocksyde 04-03-2001, 05:56 PM I agree, it seems extremely fast BBA 04-03-2001, 06:42 PM Edit: I think I was thinking of NEOPLANET browser instead...sorry! [This message has been edited by BBA (edited 04-04-2001).] deltaf508 04-03-2001, 07:41 PM where can you get it at? Gary Cygnus-X1 04-03-2001, 08:45 PM http://www.opera.com/ DemonKnight 04-03-2001, 09:28 PM I kinda thought that IE was faster at loading pages than Opera was. (seemed that way when I used it) stylin19 04-04-2001, 01:43 AM BBA scratchin my head, here. Opera doesn't use ANY of IE's engine. So it can't be IE with a different skin. Opera's zoom feature blows away IE's "text size" settings, among other things. Also, not sure what you are looking for re: customizing toolbars. Opera has been able to customize their "Button bar" since version 3.x. It may not be as easy to use as IE5, but it is customizable. and it's been user-definable,..create your own, since 3.50 Also, it can't use MS's JavaVM/ActiveX, among other things, so it really isin't an MS integratable.. Also, Opera is most compatable with Netscape plug-ins. I currently use Opera 3.62, as i don't see any performance increase with Opera 5.2, plus I can't configure Opera 5.2. to use my email client. What I AM impressed with is, IE6 beta. I downloaded a barebones version ( no email, no help files)-(looks like they took some clues from Opera & Netscape 4.08 and made it a little skinnier.) If I can get this flavor with the final, I may use it instead of Opera... Especially if I can get it to use my email client. It found it on install, and lists it in "INTERNET OPTIONS", but i can't seem to get it to execute thru IE itself. Oh well, happy hunting. Dove19983 04-04-2001, 06:31 AM Yes it has one ad at the top right but i consider it worth the money to buy. Also u can get it pretty much customized to how u like it if u play around with the ini files. sharder8 04-04-2001, 07:56 AM I've been using Opera for about 4 years (currently using Opera 5.02) and it is much faster than IE for me! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Plus it's smaller, and has many more options than IE or Netscape. It's definitely worth down-loading and taking it for a drive! BBA -- It isn't even close to being an IE other than they are both browsers! And I have customized my toolbars! As a matter of fact, IE might get there one day! Stylin19 -- I use Eudora for my e-mail client, and if I click on a e-mail link in Opera, it opens up Eudora and adds the addy, the same as Netscape and if I remember right IE. (I haven't hardly used IE in the last 4 years, and never with e-mail!) And I have to agree with Dove19983, it is definitely worth the price! I have never seen the ads, so I can't comment on them. Harder club_med 04-04-2001, 08:03 AM Judging by the good opinions about Opera I think I shall give it a try, I hope this banner ad ain’t too big, I hate those even though I understand the reason as to why they are there, but I still hate them, so happy I killed the one in ICQ, it was very annoying !. cm. CMonster 04-04-2001, 09:52 AM If you don't want the banner add I believe you have to purchase the browser. I just downloaded it and installed on this Linux box - it is faster than Netscape but the add banner is kind of annoying. Also, this is my second attempt to edit this post, for some reason it did not go through the other time. G club_med 04-04-2001, 04:19 PM Hi, i installed Opera and am using it now, i still have to get used to it, but i am quite impressed so far, its fast. cm. club_med 04-04-2001, 04:44 PM Correction: this thing is too fast ! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. Wheres my seat belt!?. cm. club_med 04-04-2001, 04:47 PM Sorry about these multiple posts. But, how do i make Opera look for the latest version of a page at every visit, where in the prefernces would i find this ?. cm. BBA 04-04-2001, 04:59 PM OMG...now you got me thinking twice...It could have been the NeoPlanet browser... I might have been posting pure BS here then...please disregard what I said above. smokin1 04-04-2001, 05:53 PM I've used Opera for a few years now, and find it really fast. I actually paid for it, so there are no ads, and the newest version handles java. Pay for a browser?..yeah, what a concept...LOL http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif stylin19 04-04-2001, 06:01 PM sharder8 I currently use MailWarrior3.5 thanx for the the tip about Eudora. i hadn't used it in years....mabe it's time to re-visit it. thanx again jl123 04-04-2001, 07:26 PM I'm using OPera after reading this thread and I do notice a faster load of webpages. It's pretty good. That zoom feature is pretty neat. Although I don't see a reason for it(at least for me) it's there if you need it. ~Joel BBA 04-05-2001, 09:41 AM Is it like the IE5/55 zoom add in? ( get it HERE (ftp://65.32.196.61/IE5NTWA.EXE) ) Cygnus-X1 04-05-2001, 06:59 PM Just installed it a couple a days ago, its pretty interesting. I'll prolly pay to get that darn banner off though, but its not too obtrusive. I like the full view when you press the F11 Key..cool. I must admit that I am still using IE 5.5 but I fire Opera 5 up for a while too just to get the hang of it. It is also cool to have if you do webpages: you can compare to how it will look if someone had Opera. Mr Miyagi 04-05-2001, 10:03 PM Well after reading this I think I'll try it too. club_med 04-06-2001, 05:37 AM Do i dare ask this question: How do i get rid of the banner in Opera, or can i at least make it smaller ?. cm. samwichse 04-06-2001, 02:56 PM Yeah, it's really easy to get rid of the banner ad completely, no fuss, no muss Just pay for the program! It's a fine product, let the people enjoy the fruits of their labor. [This message has been edited by samwichse (edited 04-06-2001).] SysOpt.com
