I bought that same Artec scanner 6 months ago for $80.00. It had a $60.00 rebate return. So it only costs me $20.00!!!! Now that is what I call cheapo!! Keep-em coming!!!!!! BTW, the rebate came in 2 months. :r BipolarBill 11-27-2002, 08:40 PM That HP 4C scanner that I got on Ebay cost $1000 when new. $50 with shipping is a deal - and I can literally plug and play because it was basically a 32-bit version of my dead 4P. R.I.P. :( omega31 11-27-2002, 08:44 PM Well, good for you, Billy. Hopefully this one will last you a good many years. :t BipolarBill 11-27-2002, 08:54 PM Thanks! gjimene2 11-28-2002, 12:08 AM Hey Bill, I like Canon, you should take a look at their products Canon (http://www.usa.canon.com/html/conCprCatProdIndex.jsp?section=10200) makes some real good printers and scaner's. I have the CanoScan FB620U. You can take a look at the link provided so that you can see the street price of a scanner you'll like :) BipolarBill 11-28-2002, 12:20 AM Thanks, but I like SCSI scanners and I have the card already (shared with tape drive). You can't get legal-sized SCSI scanners anymore. After the 4C dies, I'll settle for one of these new USB mini-scanners. Cluedo 11-28-2002, 12:44 AM Congrats on your "new" scanner. In memory of your old scanner click here for a final farewell .wav (http://www.civilwarartillery.com/sounds/taps.wav) ;) (Yes, it's a sound file..) BipolarBill 11-28-2002, 01:11 AM Truly touching, Cluedo.... http://membres.lycos.fr/limagerie/cry.gif sandeep 11-28-2002, 05:17 AM  My HP 4C Scan Jet SCSI scanner died on me 2 days back. I am going to the HP service center to get it fixed. They asked me to bring it in. Why dont even you try that? :) RampageIII 11-28-2002, 08:00 AM Originally posted by Cluedo Congrats on your "new" scanner. How about "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes, Cluedo??;) Cluedo 11-28-2002, 08:11 AM sandeep....not speaking for Billy...but it sounds like you are one of the lucky ones(?) that have a HP center close by? I finally wound up working on my PSC 500 for a couple of weeks to get it printing color again. Even the place I bought it wasn't interested in working on it. HP's suggestion was to box it up and mail it in....$$$$ The nearest big cities had just a few places that would even look at a printer. The minimum, lowest price that anybody charged just to look at it (no repairs included in the price was 75 dollars. Every place in my area, on HP's suggested list, all had the same suggestion: 1. How much did you pay for it? 2. How much do printers cost now...prices have really dropped. 3. Buy a new one....it'll be cheaper. sandeep 11-28-2002, 08:35 AM near one?? These one almost everywhere. here is one. 535 5th Ave Manhattan, NY 10017-3610 :D They said that they send me the cost later. their service charge is $50.  Billy. You might wana try here. I am sure you will find one near you. http://hp.infonow.net/bin/findNow?LIST_LIST_KEY=4-10384901010005536145&CLIENT_ID=HP_LOC_USA_SRV  Cluedo 11-28-2002, 09:46 AM Originally posted by RampageIII How about "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes, Cluedo??;) Scroll down to AmazingGrace Bagpipe..hoho...but (http://www.ac-montpellier.fr/Pedagogie/Disciplines/musique/academique/tice/recherche/Pagesfic/pagesweb/024.htm) it's pretty rough. Couldn't get a direct link to work with it this a.m. :( ... it brings up the age old question: "How do you tell when bagpipes are out of tune?" ;) Love the pipes...no idea why except for I'm bonkers. Nothing like putting an LP on after a bad day and cranking the volume up on high to rejuvenate the spirits! (Plus, it comes in handy if the neighbors are playing their stuff for the "entire neighborhood" to hear....gets them to turn their amp down real quick...:D ....makes their dogs go crazy! ):r BipolarBill 11-28-2002, 09:56 AM Originally posted by sandeep My HP 4C Scan Jet SCSI scanner died on me 2 days back. Actually, I may drop it off for an "estimate", but if the estimate itself costs $50 and they tell me the repair will be $250, I'm out $50 and the cost of the used 4C just doubled. :( Cluedo 11-28-2002, 03:40 PM :t Yep...rather sad when it'smuch cheaper to buy something different, even brand new, than repair. That's why I worked on my multi-function myself. I could have bought a "new" printer for less than what they wanted just to "look" at it. :( BipolarBill 12-20-2002, 11:13 PM Well - after much ringing of hands and gnashing of teef, I have a like-new, working HP 6100C SCSI scanner in my greedy little hands. The first !#@&+ seller on EbaY screwed me good by neglecting to set the transport lock on a 4C scanner. That's a stupid mistake and it trashed the scanner. He (Hotfire) claims that it was "professionally packaged" and would "help with the shipping claim". I wonder how far a shipping claim would get in the face of blatant negligence on the part of the packer? Rather than fight with this moron and liar, I decided to write off the $55 and move on. I found a great deal on the 6100C (the same $55) and the seller (Interitem) made good on it. I'm scanning legal-size once more! Look out, world! :r omega31 12-21-2002, 05:10 PM What an idiot (hotfire). Another seller for my black list. At least you found another good deal on the same scanner. BipolarBill 12-21-2002, 05:42 PM Actually, the 6100C is a bit better than the 4C that was trashed, so in the end I can count myself lucky. :) omega31 12-21-2002, 07:51 PM Oh, that's even better. :) SysOpt.com
