...has a PII 266/128meg ram/ three 4.3g scsi drives w/ RAID...(don't know which...think RAID1)...room for 6 drives...
...runs NT4.0, have one password but not the "root" password.
partitioned with .99gig C: & 7.4gig D:...that's why I think RAID1....hidden space for backup???
...also has 1 PII 266 but can use 2...I know there's 2 core voltages for the PII 266 (2v & 2.8v)...saw a PII for $19, how can I tell what one to get??
...also...seems from what I searched this will support 512 meg ram...does it HAVE to be IBM or what type will work????
...also I have win 2000 pro...will it upgrade ok????
...what about the RAID...anywhere I could get a RAID0 for it??
...should I reformat the whole thing???
...I have the whole IBM server guide (for your IBM Netfinity server)
software kit also....
...btw with mouse & keyboard $75....given to me but great price huh????

Try d/l aida for a system info app see if it will tell you what you need to know about this system

The big question for me is what are you trying to do with it? Do you just want it to run as a home server and gateway, or do you have grand designs of it being an office server?

Sorry to reply with a question, but it would be helpful to know to suggest what to do.

Please - no more than two questions at a time. You're scaring off any possible help.

The system is probably using RAID 5 - two striped (0) drives and a single parity drive. If so, leave it. You should enter the RAID controller setup and look around.

I have no clue on the diff. CPUs. You don't need two anyway. Considering how little they cost, you could buy two in order to be certain that they match.

Go here to find out what type of memory you need and how much the unit can handle:

I believe your unit uses EDO RAM. You can upgrade to Win2K, but it will be sloooow....what about the RAID...anywhere I could get a RAID0 for it?? As stated, it probably supports RAID 0 now. RAID 5 is a combination of RAID 0 and 1....should I reformat the whole thing??? If you don't have admin privileges, you might as well.

didn't mean to ask too much:(
...plan on home use only, learning tool
might try linux mandrake with it (bad idea??)
...going to do some research about it, I'm told it was
pretty nice for it's day.
...realy I'm looking for ideas all the way around...what would
any of you do with it?????

...and thanks for the responses !!!!

If you're going to use it as a learning tool, just get your hands dirty and play with it. If you have all the disks for it, it doesn't matter if you ruin the current installation, just set it up again. Good for learning that.
