384 megs of SDRAM
or 256 megs of DDR ?
i have to choose because my pc only suppurts one type at a type

DDR because when you have that much RAM, it's speed is more important than quantity.

Yea, DDR is twice the speed. Go DDR if your planning on gaming, or doing anything esle that requires windows. It has a higher bandwidth (the amount of data that can be set through it) and it also goes twice the speed - 266 MHz instead of the 133 MHz SDRAM travels.

Yes, go with the DDR-RAM and minimum should be 256 mb. SD-RAM is slow compared to DDR-RAM and also if you have 384 mb of sd-ram you really wouldn't notice to much difference.

thatshould be sufficient for the time being

The greatest limitation to a CPU's performance is the time that it waits for the data to come from the memory; the slower the memory, the greater the time the CPU has to wait for the data. Therefore, it'll make quite a difference if you choose DDR; your CPU won't wait so much (nor will you ;) ) - it's preferable to a slow 128MB addition
