Asus a7v
Amd 1.2 GHZ
geforce 4ti 4200
30 gig ata100 maxtor
creative soundblaster live

hard drive is plug in onboard ata100
plextor is master on secondary ide
tdk is master on primary ide

I just installed the cdrw everything is working but just a little device problem that is irratating. it's a drivers problem, my os recongnize the tdk as tdk cdrw 4800b but with a ! next to it. but everything is working I can use the drive to read and write. The problem is when computer is reboot add new hardware comes out everytime and try to find a driver for the tdk, click on install automatically and find none and tried click on the tab on the bottom left don't prompt me to install this software again but same everytime it's rebooted. some suggestion is greatly appreciated

had try diable and unplugged plextor and rebooted but same problem.

p.s. now my plextor writer is doing the same thing asking for a driver on reboot.

Thanks bipolarbill for the info, Ok I have tried what the link suggest but it still not working. and the error got from the device manager is a code 28 simply that the driver is not installed correctly. have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver everytime but it just does not seem to understand that a drivers is installed already.

CDROM drives don't need drivers. Burner software does this sort of thing if there's a problem with the installation of same. If you uninstall your burner software and reinstall it, it should be fixed.

Update the VIA 4in1 drivers too.

Your HDD should be master on Primary IDE, not your burner. Maybe that's the problem?

"hard drive is plug in onboard ata100

tdk is master on primary ide"

Yep, AdamP is on to something here. Get you drive priorities sorted out. In theory it should work anyway but in practice some software is confused.

tried alot of option. well I restored my backup partition from my other HD but still don't work. so I finally decide to reinstall xp from sratch and the drivers is recognize after a reboot. I guess the old xp is is what is causing all the trouble.

p.s. "hard drive is plug in onboard ata100
plextor is master on secondary ide
tdk is master on primary ide"

what's wrong with this set up plextor is the only device on primary ide and tdk is the only device on secondary ide and i set them both as master.

thanks for the suggestion anyways.

What is you HD plugged into? A PCI controller?
