This comes under the heading of, "It's been a long day. I'm tired...and I just wanna watch a movie...but NO!!!! things can't just be simple..."

Sorry...but it HAS been a long day, and I was looking forward to just relaxing and watching a movie on my DVD player (Encore 6x DXR3) when I discover there's no sound coming from the speakers. WTF. My brain isn't working at the moment so I thought I'd post this problem on here.

As I said, it's a Encore 6x and I have a SB Live! X-Gamer with Klipsch Pro-Media 400 speakers...now the last time I played a movie, there was sound. So what's different? What has changed in my system setup? Well...I overclocked my computer last week. Running 750@950 and I installed another fan to help keep the heat down. That's it. Now if someone can correlate those 2 things together...lol, be my guest.

The system plays MP3's just fine...but if I put in a CD there will be no sound. Popped open the case and checked the wires from the DVD drive to the soundcard thinking maybe I bumped em or something when I was oc'ing...but they're all good. I'm drawing a blank on this one.

Suggestions? I'll bbl to check for replies...in the meantime, I'm gonna mix myself a stiff drink. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

what DVDplayer are you using ?

have you installed drivers for the soundcard and DVD ? ?

are you sure that the cable is connected properly ?

Ummm...I think I already answered all those questions in my initial post. The player was working perfectly fine the last time I played a DVD movie...not sure how long ago that was...maybe a week? So the drivers and dvd player that is used is irrelevant...it is possible that the cable connection isn't good. I mean...maybe I bumped it, when I was overclocking my computer. But when I looked at it, the connection seemed fine.

It's just aggravating that it worked fine not even a week ago...and tonight when I was gonna use it, I get no sound. Arrrrggghhh!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I'll guess I'll check the cable connection to make sure...but they looked ok when I popped the case off earlier.

Klipsch Pro-Media 400 speakers

Just have to say that those are some nice speakers http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Maybe you should try reconnecting the audio cable because, as you said, you could've bumped it slightly.

If you can't hear your CDs playing but everything else is fine, then check the CD audio cable from the DVD-ROM drive to the soundcard. Also... this is gonna sound stupid... check your CD volume setting to make sure it isn't cranked all the way down or that you have mute checked.

lol. It might sound stupid...but it's usually the simple things that end up biting you in the *****.

And as fate would have it, that is the case here. lol. Looks like someone was messing around on my computer (possibly my gf) and for whatever reason, put the CD volume all the way down.

<shakes head> Seriously considering putting a screen saver pw on here...lol
