MS Mess in XP

I'm in winxppro, love it too, ****.....To make a long story short, when I have messenger 5.0,
(the new update), running, and I go to check my e-mail using Outlook Express, the old version 4.7 tries to turn itself on, so to me, there they are two different programs. I want to know how I can avoid this and only be using messenger 5.0 when I go to check my e-mail. I hope I don't sound confusing!!

I'm a big advocate of ripping the old one out. Another option is copying the contents of the new version's folder to the old version's and overwriting the contents. Then, just uninstall the new one. The 4.7 version will then have been replaced with 5.0.
