Recently have following experience in two different equipment, both IE 6 and OS: WXP in one and XMe in the other.

After downloading various zip files the usual way (after the download dialog box appeared - with the confirmation box marked - inquiring whether to open or save), all of a sudden when clicking on link of file to download, a window appear indicating opening of files, after that Winzip opened in order to extract files. At this point could not indicate to save, because the usual download dialog box did not show and there was no place to indicate to "always ask before downloading this type of file".

Under folder options, the zip files are marked "confirm after download".

In one the equipment shortly after this experience I found JS/noclose in temporay internet files which was not detected by NAV 2002 (apparently Norton does not consider this to be a virus). Do not know if this may have anything to do with it.

As i did not how to revert this situation for future downloads, I opted to revert goback unit and got things back again.

However would like your views in this regard and indication of procedure to follow to restore standard settings regarding downloads of files and how to prevent this from happenning again.

thanks

The "confirm after download" checked should do it. It needs to be set on the exact file-type in question. Perhaps a reboot was needed to affect the change?

If making sure that "confirm open after download" is checked doesn't do the trick...did you happen to install the WinZip "browser addon" See this page for more info (http://www.winzip.com/ibrowser.htm) It's been so long I can't remember if it's listed as a seperate component in Add/Remove programs, or if it's just listed within the WinZip Options/Preferences. You'll have to check. In any case, I only had it a brief time quite a while back and did not appreciate it taking over.

If it only happens sometimes but not all then I don't see it being WinZip. Might want to watch closer what you are downloading and tighten up your security settings.

After I had the experience it happened all the time. As I said I corrected it by reverting with Goback, because I did not how to do it manually. I wonder if in Gobacks history there is something that may give me an idea as to what happened.

I would appreciate your ideas as to restriction of Internet settings. I have it set to medium currently, but do not know what optimum settings are when using personalized configuration.

thanks,

Are these problems avoided when using a download manager? If so which do you recommend?

Thanks,
