after my mavtor 7200 rpm drive died,i bought a wd 60 gb 7200 [2 mb] hdd [the install and setup went flawlessly]. i found out that my maxtor is still under warranty, and i will recieve my maxtor rma next week. the maxtor will also be a 7200 rpm drive, and i want to know will there be any problems using different brands of hdd as a master/slave combination? if not should the wd or the maxtor be master? or does it make any difference? i know this is an elementary question, but i am not sure and have found that if i ask here first,i save a lot of problems later.....windows xp home..k7s5a mobo...1600 xp...512 pc2100...msi g4 ti 4200 128 md vga...everything stock speed. thanks in advance.....sam

Shouldn't be a problem, there both new so you can do either or. The maxtor must be fairly new to get an rma, a friend has 2 maxtor's 40g just over a year old, doesn't like the sound there making on a raid and was upset they wouldn't give him an rma, phone system is automated so you can't even talk to anybody.
But he got them to quiet down a bit changing a bad ram strip and fresh format.

thanks for the reply...the maxtor is approx 2-2.5 years old, i just went to thier website, looked up the numbers they asked for,and about 60 minutes later they emailed me the rma number. hope your friend has a little better luck, thanks again....sam
