What are you running for a system? When I first built my system with Win98se I had the same problem, and solved it with a bios setting change. See if there is a setting under power management for a 4 second delay for shutdown, if you enable this it should solve the problem.

I emailed you a patch by microsoft to fix your problem. It was a problem with 98se. I hope all goes well.

I had the same problem. Go to start menu/run. Type msconfig. Goto Advanced and select the checkbox beside Disable Fast Shutdown. Should solve your problem.

Hi, this may have been covered already but I can't find it...

I have a fairly clean W98 upgraded to 98se install and ever since when I select Shutdown the suma***** reboots!

Is this something I can fix?
Is there discussion/FAQ/KB about it somewhere?

Thanks.

Geo.

My system is a P166mmx on a Tyan S1590 mb that has Via MP3 chipset and Award BIOS. I've been in the bios a lot and don't recall any kind of a shutdown delay setting - I'll have to look again.

jman01pa - I've been off for a couple of days and just got your patch - I'll check it out soon and let you know. Thanks. (BTW I have a Via USB upgrade that I haven't applied yet - spoz there'll be any conflicts?)

araaraara - that was one of the first things I thought of but it turns out that my msconfig/Advanced doesn't have that check box (strange - I know I saw it in earlier loads)

I'll have to keep pluggin away - thanks.

jman01pa, if that patch fixes the restart and allows you to have fast shutdown enabled, could you email me a copy? thanks.
