I'm expecting in building a new machine probably by Christmas time, or January.
Dispite I've not yet chosen the CPU (P4 2,8G or up, or XP 2800+ or up), I think I will choose the processor accordingly to the motherboard: the one that offers best performance with such CPU, will be the chosen and so is the CPU.
I've been looking around and found up these ones:

ASUS P4PE (http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socket478/p4pe/overview.htm)
ASUS A7N8X (http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7n8x/overview.htm)
ASUS A7V8X (http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7v8x/overview.htm)
EPOX 8K9A2+ (http://www.epox.nl/english/products/motherboard/8k9a2%2B.htm)
SOYO KT400 Dragon Ultra (Platinum Edition (http://www.soyousa.com/products/proddesc.php?id=176)

With one would you prefer, in order for best performance, while "keeping an eye" for $$$$ ?

Thanx...

EPoX

(peformance+stability+tweakability+feature set)/$$$ = best option in your bunch

Both Asus and EpoX are good brands, as is my personal favorite, MSI.

I'd choose based on chipset, depending on whether I went AMD or Intel, with the nForce2 and i845PE looking the best at present. The KT400 is slower, and nVidia has a better track record than VIA. Of the Intel chipset, the 845PE is the only one with full support for PC-2700 DDR, and since I'm not silly enough to pay RAMBUS prices, but P4s need lots of memory bandwidth to perform well, it's the obvious choice.

So of those, I'd go with the Asus A7N8X or the Asus P4PE, and I'd look at boards using those chipsets from other companies too.

Another vote for EpoX. :)

MSI builds good boards too, they just don't OC and tweak as well as Epox boards do. :p

For performance go with Granite Bay (e.g. P4G8X).

Well, he can 'keep on eye' on the $'s as they go into Intels pocket.;)

The Granite Bay and Blue Mountain are well worth the money.

I vote for Abit , although don't go for the MAX series if you are looking for a cheaper board.. the AT7 Max2 is fast, tweakable, stable, legacy free (can be a bad thing) but has the most options around. other than the Abit, the EpoX 8K9A3/2+ boards are the go.
